Rebecca Armacost, Director

Rebecca Armacost is the Director of the Mediation Training Institute (MTI) at Eckerd College.

Rebecca has held various leadership and executive positions in Human Resources and Organizational Development. Most recently, Rebecca served as the Senior Director of People & Culture for World Vision International, the largest multi-national charity in the world. In this position, Rebecca was responsible for creating and restructuring various Human Resource functions and departments around the world, coaching and advising senior executives on all people issues, and leading global teams of senior professionals in various departments including HR Business Partnering and Professional Development.

Rebecca holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Furman University and a Master’s Degree in Organizational Development and Design from Fielding Graduate University. She is certified as an Executive Coach through New Ventures West, an International Coaching Federation accredited program. Rebecca is certified as a Master Change Agent through GE’s Six Sigma process and holds various certifications to conduct and facilitate training and assessments including the Conflict Dynamics Profile (CDP), Myers Briggs, FIRO-B, Birkman, Benchmarks 360, and the Thomas Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument.

Rebecca has held numerous leadership positions on non-profit boards where she has championed the causes of women and children as well as promoted education for both. She currently serves as the President of the Furman University Alumni Board of Directors, Chair of the YWCA of Tampa Bay Board of Directors, and member of the Leadership St. Pete Planning Committee.

Dan Dana
Dr. Dan Dana, Founder

Dan Dana is the original founder of MTI, and now serves on the board of directors for the CCD and MTI. Holding the Ph.D. in psychology, Dan served for several years as a professor of organizational behavior at the University of Hartford (Connecticut) Graduate School of Business, and has held faculty appointments at Syracuse University and several other institutions. (A former student once called him “Doctor Conflict,” and the moniker stuck!)

Dorie Michalik
Dorie Michalik, Assistant Director

Dorie Michalik is the Assistant Director of Product Management for the Center for Conflict Dynamics at Eckerd College. She is originally from Pennsylvania, where she received a degree in Accounting from Lackawanna College in Scranton and began work as an Accountant in a manufacturing firm. In 1989, Dorie relocated to Florida with her family and continued her career in Accounting. In 2000, she opened a business providing marketing services and products serving customers in the Tampa Bay area and across the country. In 2010, Dorie wound down the marketing business and entered the educational field, providing student services at St. Petersburg College. After several years in various roles, she left SPC and subsequently joined the Center for Conflict Dynamics at Eckerd College. Dorie is currently pursuing a Bachelors in Business Administration at Eckerd College and hopes to complete the degree program by Fall 2016.

In addition to her professional experience, Dorie has volunteered her time in event management and fundraising for the City of Seminole and its annual Pow Wow Festival and with the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, among other organizations.

Melanie Rice
Melanie Rice, Marketing and Event Assistant

Melanie Rice is the Marketing and Event Assistant for the Mediation Training Institute (MTI) at Eckerd College. Originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, Melanie grew up in Naples, Florida before attending Florida State University and earning her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Following graduation, she moved on to Orlando and earned her Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Central Florida, with an emphasis on Marketing.

Melanie worked in sales positions in various industries over the years including software, communications, finance and advertising. She achieved numerous regional and corporate milestones in sales before taking several years leave from the workplace to raise a family. She has also volunteered her time and effort for the causes of adult literacy, education, child welfare and hunger.

With her two sons now of school age, Melanie was interested in new challenges and opportunities while staying engaged in her local community. She joined the Mediation Training Institute, a part of the Executive and Continuing Education department, at Eckerd College in the Summer of 2016.
