Advanced Course
Daily Agenda and Content

Next public course:
September 22-26, 2008 ~ Kansas City

This advanced program is aimed at improving the skills of practicing mediators or for those who have completed the 40-hour Foundation Course (Level I) and are interested in learning more. The program builds on the basic course with an emphasis on how to manage the emotional climate and how to meet with disputants individually while maintaining an impartial stance. Preparing parties for mediation and caucusing with parties will be covered in detail. The week provides opportunities to practice using cases from real-life situations.

Prerequisite:
  1. Completion of MTI's Foundation Course (Level I), or
  2. Completion of another 40-hour mediation training course and MTI's two-day Certification Conference in Managing Workplace Conflict. See the focus for experienced mediators.

The reason for this prerequisite is that Advanced Mediation course attendees are presumed to have prior knowledge of concepts and skills that are unique to MTI's core content. Customized in-house programs can integrate the essential elements of MTI's exclusive content for participants who have no prior experience with it.
