Executive Workshop
If your solution isn't strategic, you've got another problem.TM

Goals

The Executive Workshop is an on-site half-day decision-support program designed to enable corporate executives to:
  1. Learn the approximate financial cost now being incurred by unmanaged conflict.
  2. Discover the existing conflict management strategy that is currently imbedded in the structure and culture of their organization.
  3. Gain an understanding of the two core competencies for managing workplace conflict, which constitute the skills established by the training and coaching components of the MTS cafeteria.
  4. Acquire the quantifiable and empirical data needed to make an informed decision about the company's conflict management strategy.

Presenter

The workshop is personally conducted by Daniel Dana, Ph.D., founder of the Mediation Training Institute International, noted author, and originator of Managerial Mediation and other practical workplace mediation methods. Dr. Dana's career spans over 25 years of workplace mediation, university teaching, business consulting, and writing — all dedicated to reducing the corrosive effect of conflict on organizational effectiveness.

Outline

  1. Executive summary of Weaving Mediation into the Fabric of Organizations: A blueprint for gaining competitive advantage by strategically managing conflict
  2. Overview of the MTI Training System, a cafeteria of customizable options that allows organizations a flexible approach to cutting the cost of preventable conflict.
  3. Report and examination of data collected in advance of the workshop by the on-line benchmarking instruments, resulting in quantitative estimates of the current financial cost of conflict and of the conflict management strategy currently imbedded in the organization.
  4. Facilitated discussion among company executives to adjust estimates as necessary to achieve an accurate view of the impact of unmanaged conflict on the organization.
  5. Determination by executives of the criteria for making the right decision regarding the suitability of the MTS in the company.

Company commitment

  1. The individuals who possess decision-making authority regarding implementation of the MTI Training System are to be present for the entire workshop. Any number of additional individuals may be present. Up to ten copies of the customized workshop resource manual will be prepared and provided, as will copies of Dr. Dana's book, Conflict Resolution: Mediation Tools for Everyday Worklife (McGraw-Hill, 2001).
  2. A representative sample of the organization, including the individuals who will be participating in the Executive Workshop, are to complete the on-line benchmarking instruments in advance of the workshop: The Dana Measure of Financial Cost of Organizational Conflict and The Dana Survey of Organizational Conflict Management Strategies. Guidance will be provided regarding sample selection.
  3. The company's financial commitment is $5000, which may be applied to an MTS service agreement of $10,000 or more if contracted within 60 days. Dr. Dana's business class travel and accommodations are to be provided by the host organization.
