  • Hicks, Tim (2000). Mediation in Sexual Harassment Cases.

There are currently more rules, laws and regulations designed to deal with sexual harassment than with any other area of employment. It was estimated in 1988 that the average Fortune 500 company spent over $6.7 million per year dealing with sexual harassment claims. Research has shown that the majority of claimants in sexual or other harassment claims are not looking for punitive damages or people to lose their jobs, but rather, just want the behavior and harassment to stop. The problem that they are faced with is the inability to make this happen. This is an area where the proper mediation would accomplish this simple goal of stopping the behavior. The author discusses the opportunities for this form of mediation, the advantages and methods by which this could be accomplished. He emphasizes the need for this form of conflict resolution within organizations.
